Saif Ali Khan Biography

Saif Ali Khan is one of the leading actors of the Hindi film industry, which is also referred to as Bollywood. He was born on August 16, 1970 to the erstwhile Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who is regarded as one of the best cricketers and captains of India and Sharmila Tagore, one of the leading ladies of Bollywood and the present head of the Censor Board.

Early Life and Heritage of Saif Ali Khan

Khan belongs to a Muslim Pashtun family from his paternal side and has a Hindu Bengali lineage from his mother's side. Sharmila Tagore is the great-grandniece of Rabindranath Tagore who is the first non-European to have received the Nobel Prize in literature.

His paternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, has the rare distinction of playing for both England and India. His paternal grandmother Sajida Sultan, the Begum of Bhopal and the former Pakistani general Nawabzada Sher Ali Khan Pataudi is his great uncle.

He has two sisters, sisters Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan. Soha herself is a well known actress. Khan grew up in an Islamic atmosphere and used to study the Holy Quran as a child. His grandmother played a major role in his religious education, which was a key factor in the way he was brought up.

However, he has also revealed that his family is liberal when it comes to religion - he has conceded that even though his daughter was born into a Muslim household he will not choose her religious orientation, something that substantiates his opinions.

Saif started his education at Lawrence School Sanawar and afterwards enrolled at the Lockers Park School, Hertfordshire. He also attended Winchester College, which was where his father also studied. He is fluent in English and Hindi.

Personal Life of Saif Ali Khan

He married Amrita Singh, a Bollywood colleague, during October 1991. They divorced in 2004 and have two children - daughter Sara Ali Khan and son Ibrahim Ali Khan. He dated Italian-Swiss model Rosa Catalano for three years following his divorce with Amrita.

Saif was hospitalized on February 18, 2007 following chest pain at the Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. He had been preparing to perform at the Stardust Awards that were slated to be staged that night. This experience led him to leave smoking.

He has been in a relationship with fellow Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor from October 2007 onwards. Their impending marriage has always been a major talking point for the entertainment media of India and Khan has always expressed that they are very close to each other and marriage will just be to validate their relationship from a social point of view.

Saif's father passed away on September 22, 2011, after which he had to formally become the 10th Nawab of Pataudi. After 1971 the title does not have any official or legal status as such but he still accepted to appease the villagers' sentiments.

Bollywood star couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot on 16th October 2012 in a quiet affair after a five-year courtship. Saif Ali Khan sealed his relationship Kareena Kapoor at his residence in Bandra through a registered marriage. The three witnesses were Kareena's father Randhir Kapoor, her mother Babita and Saif's mother Sharmila.

The marriage took place in the presence of close friends and family. After the registered marriage, Saif and Kareena also had a nikaah, which took place at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai which was followed by a party. The couple who started dating back in 2007, had officially declared their intention to get married in the beginning of 2012.
