Chandrachur Singh Biography

Chandrachur Singh, the name evokes the picture of the intense, serious and handsome hero from the film Maachis. Born on October 11, 1968, Chandrachur Singh was born to a very affluent family. His father is an ex-MLA from Aligarh and his mother is the daughter of the Maharaja of Balongir in Orissa.

Chandrachur Singh's entry into Bollywood happened with the film Tere Mere Sapne which was an ABCL production. Chandrachur Singh was actually discovered by ABCL in a talent hunt when they were looking for actors to act in their maiden production. All his co-stars, Arshad Warsi, Simran and Priya Gill, were liked in Tere Mere Sapne but it was Chandrachur Singh who got the most of the spotlight. Although the film did average business, audiences liked Chandrachur's acting skills.

The biggest turning point in Chandrachur Singh's acting career came with Gulzar's movie on Punjab terrorism, Maachis (1996). Chandrachur with his bearded macho looks, intense acting and serious personality, won the hearts of his fans. His pairing with the talented actress Tabu was very much appreciated by the audience. He won Videocon Screen Award and Filmfare Award for his performance in Maachis.

After the success of Maachis, everyone expected Chandrachur Singh's acting career to reach great heights. But sadly the films that followed could not match Maachi's success. He did films like 'Shyam Ghanshyam', 'Betaabi' and 'Silsila Hai Pyar Ka', which did not do well at the box-office.

Chandrachur Singh again gained some recognition in films like Dil Kya Kare, Josh, Kya Kehna and Daag-The Fire. But none of these were solo movies and Chandrachur had to share screen space with other stars like Ajay Devgan in Dil Kya Kare, Shahrukh Khan in Josh, Sanjay Dutt in Daag-The Fire and Saif Ali Khan in Kya Kehna. Chandrachur Singh is now cast mostly in supportive roles.

Chandrachur Singh is also a trained Classical singer and is now concentrating on music. But his acting career is still far from being over.
