Discovered and introduced by the legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia entered Bollywood in 1973 with her debut performance in Bobby opposite Rishi Kapoor. The 16 year old glamour girl never looked back since then. Besides commercial films, Dimple has also proven herself as an able actress in parallel cinema.
Born on June 8, 1957, Dimple was born to Chunnibhai Kapadia, an entrepreneur and his wife Betty. Her younger sister Simple was also an actress, though not as successful as her elder sister. Dimple married veteran actor Rajesh Khanna a few months ahead of the release of Bobby, her debut film. In spite of the roaring success, Dimple left filmdom and spent her years looking after her family and her two daughters Twinkle and Rinkie.
After 12 long year of distancing herself from Bollywood, Dimple once again came back with 'Saagar' co-starring Rishi Kapoor and Kamal Hassan. This was her first film after her divorce from Rajesh Khanna. She has acted in a series of movies through the 1980s and 1990s and has won a number of awards.
While Bobby and Saagar had brought her the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1973 and 1985, it was the role of 'Sanichari' the hired crier in Rudaali that brought her the National Film Award for Best Actress in 1993. She also got the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress in Krantiveer in 1994.
