MG University Kottayam or Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam made its inception on 2nd October, 1983 with efforts of the Government of Kerala. This university happens to be the largest of all the 7 universities based in Kerala. Gyani Zail Singh inaugurated the University on 26th October, 1983. MG University of Kottayam has the membership of Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of Indian Universities.
