Parimarjan Negi Biography


Parimarjan Negi became the youngest Indian to win the Grandmaster norm in the year 2005. He is also the world's youngest International Master in chess. Parimarjan was born to Paridhi Negi February 9, 1993, in Uttarakhand and shifted to Delhi with his family at a very early age. His father is an Air Traffic Controller while his mom is an executive in Life Insurance Corporation of India.

With his inborn talents, Parimarjan Negi started learning chess before he was 5 years of age. Being a part of Amity International School, Saket, New Delhi, was a boon for him because the school encouraged him all through to maintain his education and yet aspire for an ambitious future in Chess.

The notable achievements of Parimarjan Negi at International Level includes gold medal in Asian Youth Chess Championship 2002 and Commonwealth Championship 2003, both in the under-10 category. Negi finished with a silver medal in Commonwealth Championship 2004 in the under-14 category. He won bronze medals in the Asian Youth Championship 2003 in the under-10 Category and World Youth Championship 2004 in the under-12 Category.

The illustrious career of Parimarjan Negi also included gold in the National Sub-Junior Championship 2004 in the under-15 category, which was a record breaking performance. At a very early age, he had also been the proud recipient of gold medals in events like National under-9 Championship in 2002 and National under-11 Championship in 2003. He had also won a silver medal in the National under-7 Championship in 2000.
