Krishna District's biggest and largest city is Vijayawada. It is third largest in Andhra Pradesh in terms of area, after Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. Vijayawada means 'Land of Victory'. The name of thi place was derived from the deity Kanaka Durga, who was also called as Vijaya. The city also has a popular historic name, known as Bezawada. The Indian Railway uses it for assigning the station code "BZA".

This big city originates on Krishna River's northern bank. Different dynasties have ruled this place from time to time. This city is very well-known and recognised for Andhra Pradesh's number of educational institutions. The city has a good connectivity of rail, road, and air. The city also has India's second largest railway junction. This city is known as Andhra Pradesh's commercial capital. This sociologically dominant, agriculturally rich and politically active is also a transportation and industrial hub.

People here talk about the various stories and tales after which the name Vijayawada originated. Initially, its name was Chandrala that meant victory which came after Gajapathis' family. Later, this place was also known where Shiva has blessed Arjuna on hill Indrakiladri. Another legend states that this place was where Goddesses Durga relaxed after killing the demon. Because she had won against the demon, the place was called Vijayawada that means city of victory.

Vijayawada has a tropically dry and wet climate. The summers get very hot and winters are moderate. During May to June, the temperature rises to 47 Degree Celsius. During winters, the temperature falls to 20 to 27 Degree Celsius. The rainfall in this area is 103 cm and it comes from northeast and southwest monsoon. The humidity here is almost 78%. Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy gave this place a nickname "Blaze-wada" because the place has scorching heat during summers.

Vijayawada has the second largest as well as busiest railway station in India. Per day, the junction has more than 270 trains after Mumbai and Howrah. Vijayawada Junction generates the highest revenue in the region of South Central Railway. It is located along Chennai to Delhi and Chennai to Howrah rail route. Central government has given Vijayawada Junction A-1 status.
