Pulella Gopichand Biography


Pulella Gopichand, born in the year 1973, is considered as one of the finest badminton players India has ever seen. Gopichand started his career in the year 1989 when he became the National Badminton Champion in a tournament in Goa. After this win, Pulella Gopichand never had to look back.

In the year 1997 Pulella Gopichand made his mark as one of the world class badminton players. He made it to the finals of the Indian Open, which was organized in Delhi. The 1998 Commonwealth Games proved to be another turning point in the career of Pulella Gopichand. In the Commonwealth Games that took place in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 he performed extremely well and in this very event India won four medals in a row. In the following years Pulella Gopichand went to Europe. During his long tenure in Europe, Pulella Gopichand participated in some major tournaments such as the German League.

Winning the All England Open Badminton Championship of 2001 was probably the most remarkable achievement of Pulella Gopichand. Chen Hong of Chinese origin was Pulella Gopichand's competitor in this international tournament.

Having an eventful career, Pulella Gopichand has truly emerged as a master player in the Indian badminton arena. In fact Pulella Gopichand is considered as the successor of Prakash Padukone, who was the first Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championship.

The courage and perseverance with which Pulella Gopichand performed in both the national and international badminton courts is truly worth mentioning and is a medium of inspiration for hundreds of enthusiasts.
