The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, previously known as the College of Engineering & Technology Delhi, is a major and prominent college in India which is located in Hauz Khas, Delhi. It is popularly called by the name IIT-Delhi or IIT-D. It is a part of the IIT league in India which includes besides IIT Delhi, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Madras. The institute was set up as on 21st August 1961.
The IIT Delhi campus sprawls over an area of 320 acres and is in close proximity to famous monuments like the Qutub Minar and Lotus Temple, and educational institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Each department has individual administrative structure and is headed by the 'Head of the Department (HoD)'. The departments are headed by the respective HoDs for a time period of 3 years which is then followed by the appointment of the new HoD. Each of the department of the institute offers courses at undergraduate or post-graduate level, some departments like the Mechanical Engineering Department, offer 2 or more undergraduate courses while some departments offer joint programmes. The DMS (Department of Management Studies), IIT- D was established in the year 1993. It offers a '2-years full time MBA programme', one concentrating on Management Systems, while the other on Telecommunication Systems Management. The Department also offers a '3 year part time MBA programme' focussing on Technology Management.
