As per the 2011 Census, Sikkim has a total population of 607,688. In the previous census of 2001 it had a population of 540,851. The total male population of Sikkim is 321,661 and the total female population is 286,027. The population growth since the last census was 12.36 percent and the total population of the state forms 0.05 percent of the entire population in India. The area of Sikkim is 7,096 sq. km with a Density of 86 per sq km.

The Sex Ratio in Sikkim is 889 for each 1000 male and has increased since the last census in which it was 875 per 1000 males. The child sex ratio is 944 per 1000 males and has increased as compared to 938 in the last census. The Literacy rate in Sikkim is 82.20 percent, with male and female literacy at 87.29 and 76.43 percent respectively. In figures, the total literates in Sikkim are 449,294 out of which 253,364 are males and 195,930 are females.
