Dinesh Kartik Biography

Dinesh Kartik is a talented young Indian cricketer with tremendous potential. He is a wicket-keeper/ batsman in the Indian cricket team. His full name is Krishna Kumar Dinesh Karthik and he was born on June 1, 1985 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He is the son of Krishna Kumar, a former first-division cricket player from Chennai. After spending two years in Kuwait due to his father's job, he returned to India where under the immense support and training imparted by his father, Dinesh honed his cricketing skills. Since then, Dinesh began his cricket career at the domestic level, gradually proving his mettle to eventually make it into the national team.

With tremendous agility and fitness, Dinesh is a fine wicket-keeper, as well as an efficient right-handed batsman. Playing numerous tournaments at the first class level like the Ranji Trophy, Tamil Nadu, Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, Dinesh even improved his skills when he attended a wicket-keeping camp directed by former Indian wicket-keeper, Kiran More. Dinesh's performances were then noticed and thus in 2004, he made his debut at the international level, filling up the position of permanent wicket-keeper, replacing makeshift keeper Rahul Dravid and Parthiv Patel.

In his One Day International career, Dinesh has played 13 matches, scoring 150 runs and 11 catches and 1 stumping that being of Michael Vaughn's in his ODI debut against England at Lord's in the Natwest Challenge, in September 2004. Shortly afterwards, Dinesh made his Test debut against Australia at Mumbai in November 2004, and since then has played 11 Tests, scoring 346 runs, and has taken 34 catches with 4 stumpings.

Due to his inconsistent performances, Dinesh was axed and was replaced by current Indian wicket-keeper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He made occassional comebacks in India's tour of South Africa in late 2006, the Bangladesh tour where he played as a Test opener, and the four-match ODI series against West Indies, where he won his first Man of the Match award. With his position in the national squad at stake, young Dinesh has a lot to prove to fare well in the future.
