Mon is one of the major districts of Nagaland. This district is well known as the dwelling place of the Konyak Nagas. The headquarters of the district of Mon is its namesake, Mon city. It is located at a distance of about 357 kms from the state's capital city Kohima.

The district is located between 94°49' East longitude and 26°45' North latitude. The state encompasses a net area of1,786 square km. This district is under the jurisdiction of the tribal leaders referred to as 'Anghs'. The Anghs are in charge of different regions of the district. It can be said that the Anghs have almost absolute authority in this part of the state of Nagaland. In fact, Mon is the only Nagaland district where one can see the Anghs. Anghship is a hereditary post.

The Konyak Nagas are well reputed craftsmen and artisans. Some of the popular items created by them are daos, wood carvings, guns, gunpowder, head brushes, headgear, necklaces. One of the most important segment of the cultural life of the people of this district is the festival called ' Aoling Monyu'. This festival is celebrated in the first seven days of the month of April.
