Madhya Pradesh (MP) state is situated in central India. The state is bordered by different states - to its northeast lies Uttar Pradesh, to its southeast lies Chhattisgarh, to its south lies Maharashtra, to its west lies Gujarat and to its northwest lies Rajasthan.
This state is popularly known as the Heart of India. MP's capital is Bhopal, and the largest city here is Indore. Madhya Pradesh is the second biggest state in India when it comes to the area. Its population is 72,597,565 (2011 census), and hence it ranks sixth in India as far as the population is considered.
Hindi is a standard language spoken in Madhya Pradesh. Besides that, people also speak various regional variants, which are also different Hindi dialects. Apart from all this, Malvi is spoken in Malwa, Nimadi is spoken in Nimar, Bundeli is spoken in Bundelkhand and Bagheli is spoken in Bagelkhand and southeast of the state. Other languages are also spoken such as Telugu, Gondi, Bhilodi (Bhili), Korku, Nihali (Nahali) and Kalto (Nahali), which the tribal groups speak. Because the Marathas had ruled this place, a substantial number of people speak Marathi here. Because Gujarat is very close to the state, many people also are familiar with Gujarati.
Agar-Malwa became the 51st district of Madhya Pradesh, as per the decision taken by the state government. It started functioning from 16 August 2013, covering 2,785 sq km and having a population of about 4,80,000. The district of Shajapur was bifurcated for this purpose, and tehsils of Nalkheda, Susner, Badoud, and Agar were included in Agar-Malwa.
There are number of national highways in the state. Some of them are NH3, NH 44, NH 12, NH 12A, NH 25, NH 26, NH 26A, NH 26B, NH 27, NH 59 A, and many more.
The major rivers in Madhya Pradesh are Narmada, Shipra and Son. The state is divided into agro-climatic zones including Kaimur Plateau and Satpura Hills, Satpura Plateau (Hills), Vindhyan Plateau (Hills), Narmada valley, Wainganga valley, Bundelkhand Region, Gird (Gwalior) Region, Malwa Plateau, Nimar Plateau, Jhabua Hills and Leeshiv.
If you do not want to miss out the reserves in Madhya Pradesh then you should plan your trip to the state in between October and June. The reserves remain closed during the monsoon season.
By Air: The state is well-connected by air. The major airports of Madhya Pradesh are in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Out of these three, Bhopal is an international airport.
By Rail: The rail network within Madhya Pradesh is extensive, which means you can travel to this state from almost all the cities of this country.
By Road: There are government as well as private buses that run from and to Madhya Pradesh. You will get bus to and from all the desired destinations in the state.
