Vijayawada, located on the banks of River Krishna, is a prominent city in Andhra Pradesh. The city has been named after Goddess Kanaka Durga or Vijaya. It is known as 'the Business Capital of Andhra Pradesh'and has also been recognised by Mckinsey Quarterly as the 'Global City of the Future'.

Economy

Agriculture is a main contributor to the economy of the city. Some other sectors that contribute to the economy include industries, transport and tourism. The city is a major trade centre of the state. Everyday a large amount of trade takes place in the city's textile market. Vijayawada is also an automobile industry hub. The Jawahar Lal Nehru Auto Nagar Industrial Estate, which is the main auto hub in the city, houses as many as 800 industries. The city also provides good educational facilities to students. There are many government and private colleges that provide standard education. As it is one of the education hubs, the city is sometimes also called 'Vidyalawada'or 'Educational Sahara'

Places of attraction

The city has lot to offer to the tourists as it houses many places of interests. From age-old temples to well-maintained museums and parks, there are many places of attractions such as Gandhi Hill, Bhavani Island, Kanaka Durga Temple, Victoria Memorial and Rajiv Gandhi Park to name a few.

Infrastructure

Vijayawada is well linked to other places by road, rail and air. The Vijayawada airport has direct flights to other cities like Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad among others. The Vijayawada railway station serves as an important junction in South Central Railway zone. There are many other railway stations which provide connectivity to the city. The national and state highways are the connecting link between the city and other places. Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) runs buses to cater to the public transport system.
