B-Pharma or Bachelor of Pharmacy is an academic degree offered at the undergraduate level in India. This qualification is the fundamental requirement for getting the license to work as a pharmacist. If the students are interested to pursue higher studies on pharmacy in India like M.Pharma (Master of Pharmacy), then they will have to pass the B.Pharm examination.
The B.Pharma course typically comprises six subject areas and they are as follows:
In order to become eligible for a B-Pharma course, the students should have minimum 50% marks in their higher secondary examinations or 10 + 2 examinations or any examination which is equivalent with Mathematics or Biology as one of the subjects.
In India, a number of states make it compulsory for the students to appear for an extra Pharmacy entrance exam so that they can qualify for the B-Pharma study program.
Alternatively, students who have passed D.Pharma or Diploma in Pharmacy will qualify for enrolment into the B-Pharma course in the second year straightaway through lateral entry. It has been laid down by the Union Government of India that the colleges offering degrees or diplomas in pharmacy (B.Pharma, D.Pharma, M.Pharma or Pharm D) should have the accreditation of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) or All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
